Designed to compliment its official head the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the brand new Pompidou Centre in Metz Lorraine has marvelled tourists from all over the world. Keeping in sync with the architectural enchantment of the Paris centre the Pompidou de Metz Lorraine has the first satellite museum in the world.
Located in the new tourist hub of France, Metz Lorraine saw over a thousand visitors just during its opening week from May 10 to May 16, 2010. The prime exhibits in the first week, were the masterpieces that addressed the making and concept of masterpieces in the distant past and the coming future.
The museum is filled with 59,000 modern art, sculpture and design elements borrowed or replicated from the parent Pompidou in Paris. Renowned exhibits will share space with temporary exhibits as per the agenda decided by the main head centre.
The building has been designed by architects Jean de Gastines and Shigeru Ban on modern yet fluid lines. The curvaceous roof is beautifully lit and together with the protruding square window section adds to the design element on the whole. The new Pompidou also has specifically demarcated creative studios for performing arts and music, exhibition areas, a bookshop-boutique, an auditorium and an exciting cafeteria. To add to the beauty the designers have also provided stunningly landscaped gardens and a functional terrace.
The Pompidou Centre elevates the contemporary and minimal art of Europe to its highest glory. The museum also allows visitors to take active participation in the visual arts, music, literature and cinema through the well designed theatre and library.
Metz lies on the border of Germany and has a significant European influence in its culture and daily life. The Metz Pompidou is strategically located within an earshot of the Metz TGV train station and a ten minute walk from Metz downtown.
